Welcome from the Head

On behalf of our community, I welcome you to the American School of Marrakesh.

We are a school confident in our mission and dedicated to helping our students achieve their dreams. Committed to the ideals of our founders, we prize the opportunities implicit in a classical liberal arts and sciences education. We are a community dedicated to building skills in reading, writing and mathematics and committed to our core values of integrity, responsibility, respect and appreciation of excellence. These foundations imbue our students with the skills necessary to explore and succeed at high levels in cutting-edge subject-areas.

Inspired by the history and culture of Marrakesh and in response to our students’ global aspirations, we offer multilingual studies: Our language of instruction is English, starting in pre-kindergarten and continuing through the 12th grade. In addition, Classical Arabic and French studies also commence in kindergarten.

Our teachers are attentive to the curiosities and interests of their students. They expect focus, hard work and reflection, and they deliver a curriculum that rewards creativity, initiative, resilience and adaptability. Our programs of study – accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and based on standards and benchmarks developed by the AERO project specifically for American international schools – prepare our students for achievement and success. Our graduates attend top colleges and universities in the United States, Europe, the Middle East, Morocco and around the globe. After university, our students report that their Թ51education has imbued them with life-long tools for success in their professional and personal lives.

Our beautiful campus is a twenty-minute drive from Marrakesh’s historic center. In addition to our classrooms, assembly spaces and resource collections; our playing fields, performance stages and laboratories offer our students places to develop their hard and soft skills and explore their extra-curricular interests.

While we delight in touting our students’ achievements, we are particularly proud of our service learning programs that provide students with opportunities to give back to the larger community. In the past year, our students led efforts to help villages in the High Atlas improve their access to clean water; they initiated a successful winter clothing drive for the victims of the 2023 Moroccan earthquake, and they raised money to help rural villages develop sustainable agriculture and empower women. These are just some of the many ways our faculty and programs are helping our students to help others.

Our teachers are committed to their own continual improvement and development. Hailing from all the corners of Morocco and the world, our faculty are unified in their understanding that teaching excellence is a result of committed preparation, high expectations and a special empathy for the learning paths of children, pre-adolescents and teens.

To learn more about our school, I invite you to explore this website and to visit us. Take a tour of our campus, witness the work being done in our indoor and outdoor classrooms, and see for yourself students being taught to make (in the words of the philosopher and educator John Dewey) “full and ready use of all their capacities” in preparation for fulfilling and adaptive lives in our ever-evolving and always fascinating world.

Sincerely,
Stephen Morison, Jr.
